The Anaerobic Digestion process produces large amounts of Biogas. Biogas consists of a mixture of Methane, CO2 and other impurities. By removing impurities and separating CO2 by a process of chemical absorption, Biomethane is produced. The Puregas clean-up system recovers more than 99.9% of the methane present in the raw biogas.
The selective organic solvents used in this process are so efficient that the end product can contain more than 99% methane and is suitable for vehicle fuel or to be injected into the natural gas grid.
Biomethane has similar composition and energy content as Natural Gas. The Biomethane Quality Protocol provides the criteria for Biomethane to be used or injected to the gas grid or for use in a natural gas appliance. Granville Energy Supply’s Biomethane is compliant with this standard.
The GES plant has capacity to process over 26 million m^3 of biogas every year, with half being converted to Biomethane for use off site.
Our Biomethane is exported off site to our customers remote CHP’s using our specially designed trailers. Granville Energy Supply provide Biomethane to Industrial Customers, which provides renewable power and heat at their sites.
The remote generation has the ability to provide at source generation to our current customers, by supplying them off grid renewable heat and power, majorly reducing their carbon footprint but also reducing reliance on national grid and fossil fuels.
