Currently market leaders in Northern Ireland, Granville Energy Supply is proud to be producing and transporting sustainable Biomethane Fuel to customers across the country.
Fully transportable thanks to our specially designed trailers, it provides sustainable power to various Combined Heat and Power (CHP) units, creating a closed loop of recovery and regeneration when customer’s food waste is sent to the Anaerobic Digestion process.
Thanks to its versatility, our Biomethane Fuel is being utilised in an additional way on-site by our team: reducing the environmental impact of employees travel by powering our company vans.
Our Performance Manager, Timothy Hamill (pictured) takes to the road in one of the sustainably fuelled vehicles every day, covering around 480 miles a week. Utilising our own on-site fuelling point to fill up when needed. The Biomethane powered vans have an impressive driving range of 320 miles and are enabling cleaner, quieter, more sustainable journeys for our team. A financial benefit is demonstrated too – Timmy’s journeys, for example, would cost around £400 (15%) more a year in a diesel fuelled counterpart.
Biomethane produces 60-80% fewer greenhouse gas emissions than the conventional petrol/diesel life cycle and is produced by upgrading the biogas created through Anaerobic Digestion (AD) at Granville EcoPark – a completely natural process where food waste is broken down. As one of the few low carbon alternatives to natural gas, Biomethane has the potential to be used in a variety of capacities, from transport fuel to generating heat and electricity for businesses and homes.
Electrifying many HGVs (heavy goods vehicles) is often too expensive or just impractical, Biomethane offers a low-cost and technology ready solution in reducing the environmental impact of buses, lorries and other larger vehicles, tackling the issues of air quality and climate – companies including Tesco, Waitrose, Arla Foods, First Bus, Camden Council and Leeds City Council have all begun taking advantage of its power.
With adequate infrastructure, Biomethane has the potential to fill the need for renewable fuel that is required in the coming years and is already beginning to do so; we are proud to leading the way here in N.Ireland in supplying this alternative fuel to our customers and extending its use to sustainable vehicles and greener travel for our team.
